    • The Observer of London reported, from figures researched by Agricultural NGO bodies, that in the last few years American, Chinese, European and Middle Eastern companies have bought up 50m hectares of agricultural land in 18 African countries. By way of comparison the entire planted South African grain crop is on 4.6m hectares. Land and labour costs are favourable to the foreign investors who fly the produce back to supply their domestic markets.

    • Remgro and Zeder Investment Holdings (PSG Group) will acquire a 100% of Capevin Investments by initially taking increasing their stake in Capevin Holdings, which owns 51% of Capevin Investments, to 43.4% and subsequently making an offer in terms of the SRP regulations to the remaining shareholders in Capevin Investments. The result will be Zeder and Remgro owning equal stakes in Capevin Investments Ltd.

    • Antamina is held 33.75% by BHP, 33.75% by Xstrata, 22.5% by Teck Resources and 10% by Mitsubishi Corporation who will fund the $1.29bn expansion project in relation to their shareholding.
  • CFC Insurance Holdings Ltd (Kenya) / Liberty Holdings Ltd (2010-01-08)
    • Liberty will acquire a controlling stake in CFCIH and its wholly owned subsidiaries CFC Life Assurance Ltd and Heritage Insurance Company Ltd, through a subscription in shares in CFCIH as well as CFC Stanbic Holdings Ltd renouncing its rights to a dividend in specie in CFCIH in favour of Liberty. CFC Stanbic is 60% held by Stanbic Africa holdings (100 held by Standard Bank Group Ltd) and acquired the right to the dividend in specie through its 60% acquisition of Nairobi Stock Exchange listed CFC Bank Ltd. The cost of the share subscription will be approx R616m and the dividend in specie value is approx R990m.
