Harmony Gold Mining Company Ltd and its subsidiaries and associates undertake underground and surface gold mining and related activities including exploration, processing, smelting and beneficiation, which conducts its activities in South Africa and in Papua New Guinea.
The South African operations during the 2025 financial year include: 8 underground operations, one open-pit mine, and several surface source operations:
• Moab Khotsong - underground goldfield in Klerksdorp has a Life of Mine (LoM) of 19 years, with gold and uranium recoveries, has 6,232 employees, and produced 198,820oz.
• Tshepong Operations - includes Tshepong North with a LoM of 6 years, produced 93,237oz, and has 3,765 employees; and Tshepong South with a LoM of 5 years, produced 88,061oz, and has 3,474 employees.
• Target 1 - has a LoM of 6 years, produced 44,593oz, and has 2,061 employees.
• Joel - tailings reclamation: a prefeasibility study is underway to investigate the potential benefits of recovering gold from reclaimed tailings - has a LoM of 5 years, produced 52,534oz, and has 2,042 employees.
• Masimong - has a LoM of 2 years, produced 47,519oz, and has 2,089 employees.
• Mponeng - underground gold mine has a LoM of 19 years, produced 333,402oz, and has 6,087 employees.
• Doornkop - South Reef, Main Reef and Kimberley Reef has a LoM of 17 years, produced 87,450oz, and has 3,984 employees.
• Kusasalethu - underground gold mine has a LoM of 3 years, produced 116,675oz, and has 3,972 employees.
Bambanani was closed in June 2022
South Africa Surface Operations: Waste Rock Dumps:
• Kalgold - open pit (located on the Kraaipan Green Stone Belt) and tailings dam - has a LoM of 12 years, produced 39,738oz and has 743 employees.
• Free State surface - has a LoM of ±1 year, produced 32,408oz
• North West surface - has a LoM of ±1 year, produced 5,112oz
• West Rand surface - has LoM of ±1 year, produced 9,902oz
Tailings Operations
• Mine Waste Solutions (MWS) - reclamation of gold from tailings storage with a LoM of 14 years, produced 96,323oz, and has 2,177 employees.
• Savuka Tailings - in the West Rand with a LoM of 7 years, produced 18,261oz, and has 240 employees.
• Phoenix - tailings management, with a LoM of 5 years, produced 30,673oz, and has 443 employees.
• Central Plant Reclamation (CPR) - with a LoM of 11 years, produced 20,770oz, and has 271 employees.
