York Timber Holdings Ltd has interests in the commercial forestry, softwood sawmilling, plywood manufacturing and international timber trading industries. The group's processing plants convert softwood logs into a wide range of timber related products for the construction, furniture, cable drum, and pallet industries. Products include structural lumber, scaffolding, plywood, furniture components, wood laminates, pallets, decks, crates, as well as offering treatment and wood chips for pulp and paper. It markets products directly to manufacturers, retailers, timber merchants through its national sales network and partly through independent timber agents. The group owns 89,579 hectares of land comprising 55,925 hectares of commercial pine, 304 hectares of eucalyptus forest, 2,534 hectares of temporary unplanted areas, 30,701 hectares of conservation areas, and 115 hectares of agricultural land. It also operates 2 sawmills, 1 plywood plant in Sabie, plantations in the Mpumalanga province on which it grows pine and eucalyptus trees, 5 distribution centres located in Germiston, Polokwane, Gqeberha, Durban, and Cape Town, and owns land with avocado, citrus and macadamia orchards, a fruit packaging facility and a sawmill that produces lumber and pallets in the Mpumalanga province.
