Sappi Ltd is the holding company for a group that provides woodfibre-based renewable resources. Raw material offerings (such as dissolving pulp, wood pulp and biomaterials) and end-use products (packaging and specialties papers, graphic papers, casting and release papers and forestry products) are manufactured from woodfibre sourced from sustainably managed forests and plantations, in production facilities powered, in many cases, with bioenergy from steam and existing waste streams. The group's operations comprise: • North America: 1 paper mill, 1 speciality paper mill, 1 paper and specialised cellulose (dissolving pulp, bleached chemical pulp for own consumption and market pulp) mill, and 1 pulp mill. • Europe: 6 paper mills, 3 speciality paper mills, 1 paper and speciality paper mill (Maastricht Mill Coated woodfree paper and paperboard). • Southern Africa: 4 pulp and paper mills (Stanger Mill: bagasse pulp, tissue and office paper; Tugela Mill: wood pulp, packaging papers and biomaterials; Ngodwana Mill: wood pulp, specialised cellulose/dissolving wood pulp, newsprint and packaging papers; and Saiccor Mill: specialised cellulose/dissolving wood pulp), 1 sawmill and 6 sales offices. Sappi Forests owns or leases 400,000 hectares of which 261,000 hectares are planted with pine and eucalyptus, in southern Africa with about 28.4 million tons of standing timber. The Lomati Sawmill produces 99,000 cubic metres per annum of sawn timber for the construction and furniture manufacturing industry.
