Woolworths Holdings Ltd (WHL) is a holding company for a group of companies that operates within the retail sector of 10 countries across South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, Australasia and New Zealand. As of 30 June 2022, WHL had 1,386 store locations including concessions and over 17 million customers in the southern hemisphere. It also offers 7 online retail platforms and a WRewards programme with 3.7 million active members. The group has three major wholly-owned operating subsidiaries: • David Jones - trading in Australia and New Zealand (44 stores) - food, home, fashion and beauty products. • Country Road group - based in Australia and trading in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa (607 stores and in-store concessions) - home, fashion and beauty products. • Woolworths - based in South Africa and operating across 10 other countries in sub-Saharan Africa (268 clothing and general merchandise stores; 479 food stores including 91 Engen forecourt concessions) - clothing, general merchandise and food. Products sold include hair care, skin care and cosmetics. The group wholesales bulk orders to hotels, restaurants, guest houses, schools, human resources, clinics, creches, among others. Woolworths Financial Services, a financial services provider, is a joint venture between Woolworths and ABSA Group Ltd. It has 36 financial services hubs operating within South Africa and Namibia. Woolworths has a W.Lab brand which produces and sells detergents, cleaning products and hand sanitisers.
